About Leslie Becker-Phelps, PhDAs a NJ and NY licensed psychologist based in Basking Ridge, NJ, I am also licensed to do telehealth (secure video therapy) in many other states. I am a therapist, author, speaker, and teacher with the goal of guiding people toward happier, more productive lives. This includes helping people overcome problems, as well as build on their strengths. I do this largely by focusing on improving their relationships with themselves and others. Fundamental to this process is what I have described as Compassionate Self-Awareness (a combination of self-awareness and self-compassion). Its power to nurture a sense of well-being should not be underestimated.

In all of my work (and especially the therapy I offer individuals and couples), I do my best to understand those I’m trying to help. I try to empathize with their struggles and work collaboratively to determine their goals and how to attain them. Although my training has provided me with a wide variety of tools, my experience has taught me which tools are most likely to help in any given situation. Along with helping patients to develop compassionate self-awareness, some approaches I use are: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, interpersonal, mindfulness, and mentalization.
